Hey no question is stupid ref houshold paints well this is puerly a PERSONAL view I wouldnt touch them with a bargepole.
if I was you I would go out to halfords and get some rattle cans.
Satin or Matt black for the hull
Plastic primer in red for the antifoulong
Gloss white for the supertructure
Any small items can be done with revel/tamya or revell tinletts

Need to know more then just ask and I'll help you along

Hi Stavros, thanks for the pointers. It aint easy when you dont know what to do.

I am assuming that it's best to paint the superstructure assemblies as and when they are being built, (leaving glue surfaces bare).

Just added another six months to the build schedule.

Agree with Stav,
Another thing to consider,most household paints require brushing on,unless you use a fine brush,you will get out of scale brushmarks.
Also household paint (white) will tend to yellow very quickly,as not designed to sit in water enviro elemant.
Spray cans for cars,much more hard wearing.

Great offer you have made here.

My main paint problem is this; I have a 1950's Hale's Spraymaster to refurb and although the original paintwork is quite sound the finish is tired. I would prefer to give it a light sanding and repaint rather than go right down to barewood. Trouble is I don't know what the original paint is or what paint can go on it without reacting? It doesn't look like a household gloss - I would guess at the regular model paint of the 1950's. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Secondly - in the engine bay there are just a couple of very small areas where fuel has affected the paint. For those it will be bare wood so what primer is compatible for whatever paint you may recommend for Q1?

you probably won't get a reply from Stavros.....he hasn't been on any forum since july.......

he was greatly upset by someone at a show when they knocked one of his models off a table and very badly damaged it, and stav decided to give up boat modelling al together..........he has sort of left the scene, so to speak.

sad as he was a knowledgeable person.
